Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Its a season of sequels and threequels coming out left, right and center. Now adding to the throng of the ever anticipated films of the summer is the Silver Surfer, and I can say I was rather excited for this particular film. I saw the first one and I liked it making me even more excited for the second as trailers started coming out, and that day finally came.

Unfortunately it's just one of the those films where a lot of people are gonna think it's crap or really good. I am the latter. I rather enjoyed the movie including those awkward cheesy moments in the film and ofcourse characters for both men and women to enjoy.

Now I am not a comic book reader so I don't know whether a character is done right or not, but I did find out that apparantly Galacticus or something (aka the destroyer of worlds or something) is not actually a giant cloud with bunch of tornado's coming off of it like the tentacles of an octopus, but rather something else. So I guess I'm saying if you're an avid comic fan you might not be to thrilled. I still enjoyed it though for its interesting design.

In the second film we venture further into the world of the Fantastic Four as we watch Susan Storm and Reid Richardson attempt to tie the knot and struggle with their new found fame. Unlike the first one this one is faster paced, theres more explosions and we jump into the story from the begging. Since the first movie is more about getting to the know the characters and the powers they get, the second is somewhat dealing with there evolved personalities. We even get the new character the Silver Surfer who infact is a naked silver man with absolutely no genitalia at all, which probably is a good thing. Although I did find the way the Silver Surfer spoke was kinda boring and lame and for the most part lacking in any emotion.

I really liked this movie and had a good laugh watching it. My sister who despised the first one and found it lame and boring, really liked this one. Her recommendation for anyone who plans to see it "See it on a Big Screen," and shes right. If you're gonna see it, see it first on the big screen and get the benefit of all the special effects and sound. Here's to hoping theres more and hoping to see a Surfer spin off.

I give it 3.5 Ice Cream Scoops out of 5
Rated PG for sequences of action violence, some mild language and innuendo.
