The Wind That Shakes the Barley

I don't really know where to start on this next film considering I have now seen it twice (the first time was nearly 9 months before in london). It is not a widely known film and for those who have heard of it, its a very controversial film.

The issues that this film deals with Irelands attempt at separation from Britian and the partial success that causes the split between Northern and Suthern Ireland. The movie takes place in 1920 and the struggles that people face whether they're a merchant or a farmer.

This film stars actor Cillian Murphy (Red Eye and Batman Begins) along with Padraic Delaney and Liam Cunningham. Murphy and Delaney play brothers who both join the IRA (Irish Republic Army), but murphy's character joins after witnessing a beating of train conducter for not allowing british troops on board.

The film is moving and emotional and brings the surface the brutality of what war can be and how even civillians are affected. I recommend this film to anyone who appreciates history or just a good film in general. It is not a hollywood film by an means and the acting is good. The only struggle I found in the movie was that since it was and Irish film sometimes understanding what was being said was difficult because of the strong accents.

I give this film 5 Icecreams Scoops out of 5

Rated 14A for Violence and Offensive language.

Stranger than ficiton...

...Some things really are...Stranger than fiction...And such is the film by that name.

A couple weeks ago I rented the movie not sure what to expect. I had seen the previews and they looked funny, but I was wary considering it was staring Will Farrell. Yet I still gave it a fair chance.

I loved the movie, I laughed a lot and some things were just sweet and adorable. Take for instance the scene in which Harold Crick (Farrell) wants to impress the baker he's auditing and brings her a box filled with individually packaged variety of flour, stating "I brought you Flours," I found that line simple and complex and very sweet.

I think one of the most interesting things about this movie I liked was that it wasn't traditional Will Farrell. I'm gonna be honest I despise most of Farrells films, they lack taste and the ability to actually be a good film. I have seen only two films that stand out in my mind by him that show he has the ability to go far and be a better actor than he is. Those two being Stranger than Fiction, and the independant film Winter Passing.

I recommend seeing this film, but if you like traditional Farrell and expect to see traditional Farrell, You won't.

I give it 4 1/2 Icecream Scoops out of 5

Rated PG-13 some disturbing images, sexuality, brief language and nudity

Understanding Me

First off, I would like to say that this is not a blog about me, It is about the films I choose to watch and review. If you want to know about Me then read my other blog www.scoop373.blogspot.com

So to continue....

I like movies, always have and I'm sure I always will. It's something I do in my spare time when I find nothing else to do. I'll pop one in and watch and maybe occasionally go to the theater. I'm not all that sofisticated with what I watch, I'll watch a lot of stuff good or bad. But the thing is I don't watch them with the same mind. I try not to go into a movie with a bias of a reason to like or dislike the movie, but I admit that I do have one one handicapp when it comes to film, and thats my faith. Sometimes I may not apreciate a movie as much because I find the over usage of the " F" word to offensive, or too much explicit nudity. But I am able to look past that at the story of the film or cinematography of it all.

So I hope you enjoy my reviews even if you may not agree with them, as they are my personal view.
