I don't really know where to start on this next film considering I have now seen it twice (the first time was nearly 9 months before in london). It is not a widely known film and for those who have heard of it, its a very controversial film.
The issues that this film deals with Irelands attempt at separation from Britian and the partial success that causes the split between Northern and Suthern Ireland. The movie takes place in 1920 and the struggles that people face whether they're a merchant or a farmer.
This film stars actor Cillian Murphy (Red Eye and Batman Begins) along with Padraic Delaney and Liam Cunningham. Murphy and Delaney play brothers who both join the IRA (Irish Republic Army), but murphy's character joins after witnessing a beating of train conducter for not allowing british troops on board.
The film is moving and emotional and brings the surface the brutality of what war can be and how even civillians are affected. I recommend this film to anyone who appreciates history or just a good film in general. It is not a hollywood film by an means and the acting is good. The only struggle I found in the movie was that since it was and Irish film sometimes understanding what was being said was difficult because of the strong accents.
I give this film 5 Icecreams Scoops out of 5
Rated 14A for Violence and Offensive language.
